About the Pianist:
Jan Čmejla – piano

Jan Čmejla (2003) has played the piano since the age of six and studied composition since the age of eight. He began his musical education at the Music School of Ilja Hurník, followed by the Music School of the City of Prague, continuing his piano studies under the guidance of professor Lukáš Klánský. Since 2018, he has studied at the Prague Conservatory under Prof. Eva Boguniová.

Čmejla won several music competitions, including the Karlovy Vary Rose (2010 and 2013), the International Festival of Joseph Haydn in Vienna (2012), the international competition Virtuosi per musica di pianoforte in Ústí nad Labem (2013), Young Pianists in Steinway (2012 and 2013), Prague Junior Note (2011 and 2013), Pro Bohemia Ostrava (2011), the central round of Music School Competitions (2011 and 2014), Golden Strip in composition contest of Music Schools (2013), Chopin for the Youngest (2015), Novak International Piano Competition (2015), Young Piano of the Prague Conservatory (2015), Peter Toperczer International Piano Competition Košice (2017), Beethoven's Teplice (2018) and Virtuosi per musica di pianoforte (2018). He is laureate of the prestigious “Golden Nut” (2013) given to the most talented children in the Czech Republic and of the Kern Foundation Prize awarded by Russian pianist Olga Kern.

In 2014, he was the top winner of the international competition AMADEUS of pianists under 11 years old and performed with the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2015, he performed in Rudolfinum with the Prague Symphonic Orchestra FOK after a successful audition for soloists “Josef Suk’s Young Talents”. In 2015, he was chosen (out of 300 candidates from 49 countries around the world) among 10 participants of the prestigious course Allianz Junior Music Camp 2015 in Vienna, organized by Lang Lang International Music Foundation, based in New York.

In April 2016, he performed in the Concert Hall of the Prague Conservatory in a concert of laureates of the Young Piano of the Prague Conservatory 2015, winning the title “Talent of the Young Piano of the Prague Conservatory“ and performed at the Prague Music Festival with Václav Hudeček.

In 2018, he won 1st prize and the title of the absolute winner of Beethoven’s Teplice competition, where he also gained an extraordinary prize for the interpretation of Chopin. In 2018, he won 1st prize at the International Competition Virtuosi per musica di pianoforte and the title of the best Czech participant and opportunity to perform with the North Czech Philharmonic. At the same time, he won a special award for the performance of Beethoven’s composition. In 2019, he won the competition Concertino Praga 2019.
