Foreign Minister Tomáš Petříček celebrates 70 years of NATO in the U.S.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Tomáš Petříček visited the United States on April 2 - 6, 2019. During his visit in Washington DC, Minister Petříček participated in the NATO Ministerial Meeting held to celebrate the 70th anniversary of NATO. He also participated in the CEPA ministerial forum, opened a discussion with the 2019 Václav Havel Journalism Fellows and met with Senator Ron Johnson.  Minister Petříček also paid a visit to Independence and Kansas City, MO, where he visited the Truman library and met with representatives of Czech businesses.  
 

Minister Tomáš Petříček pariticipated in the meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers held in Washington, D.C. commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Alliance. Russia, fight against terrorism and transatlantic alliance were the main topics on the Foreign Ministers’ agenda.

During his visit, Minister Petříček met with Senator Ron Johnson from Wisconsin, discussing the importance of the transatlantic bond as well as increasing the cooperation in cyber and energy security and trade.

In Washington, Minister Petříček also spoke at the CEPA Ministerial Forum devoted to the anniversary of the Alliance. Together with the Foreign Ministers of Hungary and Poland Minister Petříček participated in an event celebrating the 20-year anniversary of NATO membership. The Minister also opened a discussion with Václav Havel Journalism Fellows at the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).

Minister Petříček visited the Truman Library in Independence, MO, where 20 years ago then Secretary of State Madeleine Albright received the Czech Accession Protocol to NATO. The Minister concluded his visit in Kansas City, where he met with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce as well as Czech companies present in the region to discuss future investment and cooperation.
