At the meeting, Minister Zaorálek spoke to US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, US Deputy National Security Adviser KT McFarland, and other representatives of the new US administration about the growing involvement of the Czech Republic in the international effort to eliminate the threat of ISIS to international security. Other topics that were discussed with American partners included the preparation of the planned visit of President of the Czech Republic Miloš Zeman to Washington.

Minister Zaorálek had traveled to DC after interrupting his official visit to Canada for one day and upon the invitation of Secretary Tillerson, who was the host of the first meeting of the Global Coalition on the Defeat of ISIS since the inauguration of US President Donald Trump in January 2017.
