Deputy Foreign Minister Petříček Visited Washington, DC

On September 24-25, 2018, Czech Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tomáš Petříček met with his counterparts at U.S. Department of State in Washington D.C. and New York. During his visit in Washington Deputy FM Petříček participated in the strategic forum organized by CEPA think-tank. On the margins of the CEPA Forum he held separate talks with Miroslav Lajčák, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia, and Kurt Volker, the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations.

During his meeting with Wess Mitchell, the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Elisabeth Millard, Deputy FM Petricek focused on the main issues of the Czech-U.S. relations in the field of security and economic cooperation. The meeting with Kurt Volker, the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations, was devoted to the current situation in Ukraine, developments in peace negotiations and the role of the EU and the UN. The Deputy FM also held separate meetings at the State Department on public diplomacy and its importance for further deepening of mutual relations.

CEPA hosted the 10th annual strategic Forum covering topics such as the transatlantic partnership, collective defense and cyber and energy security. Deputy FM Petricek participated on a panel focusing on hybrid threats. On the margins of the forum he met Miroslav Lajčák, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia, and discussed among other issues Czech-Slovak cooperation within Visegrad Group.
