Minister of the Interior in Washington, DC: Help to Czech Community in Texas Delivered

Minister of the Interior of the Czech Republic Milan Chovanec visited the United States on September 11-15, 2017. After meetings with his counterparts at the Department of Homeland Security and Members of Congress, the Minister also found the time for representatives of Czech community on Texas. He delivered financial assistance for families of compatriots in Texas struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

Minister Chovanec’s meetings with his Washington interlocutors focused mainly on current security challenges, international migration issues, and other topics aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation between the Czech Republic and the U.S. In addition to representatives of the US Department of Homeland Security, Minister Chovanec also met with Congressmen Michael McCaul, who is the Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, and with Co-chair of the Congressional Czech Caucus, Joe Barton.

In conversations with both Congressmen ,who represent the citizens of the state of Texas, Minister Chovanec also inquired about the situation in their home state in the aftermath of devastating floods caused by hurricane Harvey. Representatives of the Czech community in La Grange, Texas, received a symbolic check for 5 million Czech Koruna from Minister Chovanec. These funds released from the budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic will help families of Czech compatriots affected by floods.
