Prime Minister Andrej Babiš visited Washington

Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Andrej Babiš visited the United States of America on March 5 - 8, 2019. He met with President Donald Trump at the White House and in the House of Representatives with the Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and the leadership of the Congressional Czech Caucus.

Minister Babiš presented the National Innovation Strategy to members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, met with the director of the National Science Foundation and visited University of Maryland. He also paid a visit to the 1776 Incubator and the Czech IT company CloverDX. The Prime Minister paid tribute to the memory of the first Czechoslovak president Masaryk by his statue in downtown Washington on the day of the anniversary of his birth. On the final day of his visit, and joined by the acting Secretary of Defense he paid his respects at the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial.

At the invitation of President Donald Trump and his wife Melania, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and his spouse Monika visited the White House on March 7, 2019. The bilateral meeting of the official delegations focused mainly on defense and security, including cyber and energy, trade and cooperation in science and research. Situation in the Middle East and EU-US trade relations were also discussed. The Prime Minister met with members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and presented the National Innovation Strategy of the Czech Republic. He also met the Director of the National Science Foundation and visited the University of Maryland for a tour of their Artificial Intelligence Program. Prime Minister Babiš also interacted with representatives of the largest US investors in the Czech Republic, discussing ongoing projects and investment plans. On the final day of his stay, he visited the US headquarters of the Czech IT company Clover DX and the 1776 incubator in Crystal City.

On Capitol Hill, the Prime Minister met with Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and with the co-chairs of the Congressional Czech Caucus – Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Rep. Debbie Dingell, and Rep. Ron Wright. The Prime Minister also included in his schedule a meeting with the leadership of AIPAC and representatives of major American Jewish organizations.

On March 7, marking the birthday of  the first Czechoslovak president, Prime Minister Babiš paid tribute to the memory of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk by his statue in downtown Washington. Before leaving the US capital, the Prime Minister joined by the acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan paid his respects at the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial.
