On November 17-20, 2014, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Jan Hamáček and Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Bohuslav Sobotka along with their delegations visited the United States, to partake in the celebrations surrounding the 25^th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, which peaked with the unveiling ceremony in Congress.

Czech Deputy Prime Minister for Science, Research and Innovation Pavel Bělobrádek and Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic Daniel Herman attended the unveiling as well.

"The unveiling of a bust of our former president is a great event for all of us. Václav Havel is the fourth European politician which has received such a distinction. The United States and the Czech Republic share values such as our faith in freedom and preservation of freedom and human rights. Václav Havel fought for the same things,” said Speaker Hamáček.

"I appreciate the civil courage exhibited by Havel and other signatories of Charter 77, which encompassed the most diverse currents of opinion, from the democratic left to the conservative right. Having had the dexterity to unite these streams, Václav Havel was able to figure as their credible spokesman," said Prime Minister Sobotka at the official unveiling.

Both top representatives of the Czech Republic met with the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives John Boehner and Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi thereafter to discuss the security situation in Eastern Europe and energy security as well as the interparliamentary cooperation of the two legislative bodies.
