Czech Embassy Hosted a Hague Abduction Convention Moot Court

On May 31, 2018 the Embassy of the Czech Republic was honored to host a consular training on International Parental Child Abduction, featuring a Hague Abduction Convention Moot Court.

The event was presented by the Consular Corps of Washington, DC, and led by Karen Christensen of the U.S. Department of State: Consular Affairs. Head of the Consular Section of the Czech Embassy Pavel Pitel offered welcoming remarks, followed by addresses by Deputy Assistant Secretary for Overseas Citizens Services Karin King and Representative Ignacio Goicoechea of the Hague Permanent Bureau Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean.

In order to maximize consul effectiveness and help understand applications for the return of abducted children under the 1980 Hague Abduction Convention, representatives from the US Central Authority, Mexican Central Authority and the Hague Permanent Bureau Regional Office on Latin America and the Caribbean tried a case in moot court before a full room of consuls.
