Czech Republic Expels Russian Diplomats

On March 26, 2018 the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs in accordance with Article 9 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, declared personae non gratae three members of the diplomatic staff of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Czech Republic.

This move is firstly a response to the unprecedented chemical attack in Salisbury, thus along with other allies expressing unity and solidarity with the UK, and secondly to the false allegations by the Russian Federation that the Czech Republic was a potential source for the Novichok agent used in the attack.

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš explained his government's decision as follows: "We are a solid part of the Western Bloc, and the British Prime Minister May has personally asked me to take this step. And when our ally asks for help, we should meet this ask. Russians crossed all red lines when they declared that the poison used in the attack in the UK could come from the Czech Republic."
