CZ-US Agreement on Scientific & Technological Cooperation Extended

On April 27, 2018, the Czech Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Robert Plaga and the U.S. Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Stephen King signed a Protocol which has renewed the current Agreement between the Czech Republic and the United States of America on Scientific and Technological Cooperation. The original Agreement from 2007 has been extended for another 10 years.

The official signing ceremony took place in Prague, the Czech Republic, hosted by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport in its historical premises.

„Research, development and innovation play an important role in the economy and society of the United States of America, some of the worldwide most distinguished research institutions are located there. The renewal of this Agreement is a basic condition for improvement of an international cooperation in research and development,” stated Minister Plaga.

The Agreement currently represents an umbrella framework for broad research cooperation which includes universities, research institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and other public research organizations, but also delivery of material and equipment for research infrastructure. Moreover, the Agreement also provides formal background for research funding program, run by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports that supports bilateral collaborative research projects.

„It is my pleasure to sign the extension of Czech-American Agreement for scientific and technological cooperation which represents our continued commitment to cooperate in science and technology. We are looking forward to many more years of shared work and prosperity with our Czech partners,“ said the U.S. Ambassador.

Within the Agreement both countries confirmed their intention to develop, support, and facilitate the scientific and technological cooperation based on principles of equality, general reciprocity and mutual benefit.
