Vintage Motorcycle Show

JAWA motorcycles will be on display during the EU Open House at the Czech Embassy from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015.

JAWA is a popular motorcycle production company, established in 1929 in Prague by František Janeček, an influential figure in the development of the motorcycle industry in former Czechoslovakia.

He used his knowledge of engineering and experience with factory mass production in 1927 to first base new motorcycle designs around the existing German model Wanderer.  After recruiting British motorcycle designer George William Patchett, he then developed a range of competition motorcycles. The new company took the first letters of JAneček and WAnderer to be called JAWA.

In the 1930s, the company began to manufacture faster, more robust chain-driven machines, which exceeded in competition. During WWII, his factory was used to produce German aircraft engines and generators. Still, JAWA secretly produced the most up-to-date motorcycle, a powerful JAWA 250 cc with a compact engine, rear wheel suspension and many other innovations. František Janeček died in June 1941, leaving his company to his son. In the fifties, JAWA became one of the top motorcycle manufacturers, exporting to over 120 countries worldwide.

The company JAWA Moto, spol. s r.o., was established in 1997 as the successor to the original Jawa company using the trademark JAWA. The company focuses on research, development and the production of motorcycles, spare parts and accessories. To learn more, please visit, www.jawa.eu.

JAWA Moto does not currently export to the United States. Nevertheless, JAWA does have a following in North America with over 1,000 riders recently partaking in JAWA Day 2014. Please visit www.jawaczregister.org.

On Saturday, May 9, come see a one of a kind motorcycle show in Washington, DC, and learn more about:
