A Photographic Exhibition on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the Velvet Revolution

From 16 - 23 November 2019, the Embassy of the Czech Republic organized an exhibition to mark the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution. The exhibition presented to local audience contemporary photographs by well-known photographers who captured the unique moments of the Czech nation's struggle for freedom and democracy.

The collection of photographs and accompanying texts, curated by photographer Dana Kyndrová, was presented in cooperation with the Czech Centers at the National Museum of Myanmar in Yangon and thematically followed up the exhibition Czech Fateful Dates, which aroused an interest of Myanmar audience from all walks of life.

The theme of the Velvet Revolution  strongly resonates in Myanmar as a moment of struggle against dictatorship, a fight for freedom and the beginning of transition to a free, democratic society. The local visitors almost immediately started spotting parallels with Myanmar's revolutionary year 1988.

The exhibition was widly publicized and reported by Myanmar leading media, such as The New World of Myanmar, Myanmar Times and Irrawady. Ambassador H. Mottlová gave an interview to the Kamayut Media web television channel and the event was also presented on the local Facebook websites.
