The Czechs participate again at the European Film Festival

From 13 to 29 September 2019, the European Film Festival took place in Mandalay and Yangon. For the second time since its reopening, the Embassy of the Czech Republic presented a Czech film in the adult category to the Myanmar public.

This year a film by Radek Bajgar's Theory of Tiger was selected for the show. Bajgar's directorial debut from 2016, an "adventure comedy", aroused extraordinary interest among the audience. The film starring Jiří Bartoška as a veterinarian, who no longer wants to be a domestic pet and longs to become a tiger again, was very interesting for today's younger generation of viewers. The question of "strong women", who even if from behind the curtain navigate the lives of their men and take responsibility for the running of the family, is also a grateful topic in Myanmar. "The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world," a saying goes here.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Yangon presented itself for the second time in the adult films section, during which 19 films were screened at this year's edition of the European Film Festival. Grateful viewers at the Nay Pyi Taw Cinema and the Goethe Institute applauded the film selection from EU Member States, Norway and Israel. In total, almost 2,300 local film enthusiasts attended the film screenings, and they did not mind at all that the films were shown in original languages versions with English subtitles only.

The projectors stopped running, the curtain was pulled down, and the festival is over. But we have already started thinking how to surprise the Myanmar film fans next year.
