Czech art coming to Manchester

Consulate General in cooperation with the Everyman Art Gallery invite all art lovers to an exhibition of linocuts from Czech artist Pavel Piekar.

Pavel Piekar comes from the generation that has been instrumental in the renaissance of the Czech linocut technique from the early 1990s to the present day. His prints are technically demanding and highly characteristic. The author depicts the real life with a sense for a reality and then he transforms this into a colour linocut. The graphics are based on the detailed drawings, from them Piekar creates individual linocut plates that are subsequently used for the multicolour print.

Curator Helena Hůlová, together with the author, has prepared an intimate overview of Piekar's work of the last 20 years. All of the exhibited graphics were created in the colour linocut technique and they show portraits of various artists, figural compositions and landscapes.

The exhibition took place from the 7th to the 27th March 2021 in Parsonage, Didsbury and has been relocated to the representative part of the consulate. The virtual tour with commentary is available here:
