Group of the high school students from the Czech Republic for a two-week long internship at CERN

24 high school students from the Czech Republic held from May 27 to June 9, 2018 an internship at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). They were for this program chosen from among more than two hundred candidates from all the regions of the Czech Republic.

As part of the internship, the small-groups of 2-3 students worked under the supervision of the Czech CERN staff on ten projects dealing with physical topics such as particle detection and examination of their properties, as well as topics related to other areas that need to be performed for the proper functioning of CERN. Examples include data archiving, instrument calibration, or handling of concrete beams. The results of their work were presented at the end of the internship program in front of their colleagues and selected CERN staff.

The participants of the internship at CERN had during their stay also the opportunity to meet with Ambassador Jan Kára and other Czech diplomats of the Permanent Mission in Geneva to discuss with them about Geneva as one of the centers of the world diplomacy and to get acquainted with their work. An almost two-hour discussion followed an excursion to the Palace of Nations United, seat of the United Nations Office in Geneva, organized for them by the Permanent Mission.
