The 18th World Meteorological Congress (WMO) was held at the Geneva International Conference Center from 3 to 11 June 2019.
It was marked by the fundamental reforms of the WMO governance structure: its eight technical committees have been replaced by only two - the Infrastructure Commission and the Application Commission. At the same time, the role of the Hydrological Assembly in the WMO activities was strengthened and Mr. Jan Daňhelka, Director of Hydrology of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute was endorsed by the Congress as its Chairperson.
Congress delegates also adopted the WMO Strategic Plan for the next 4 years and approved a budget of CHF 271,544,400 for this period, an increase of 2% compared to the previous four-year period.
Mr. Peteri Taalas from Finland has been re-elected as Secretary General of WMO and the joint EU candidate Gerhard Adrian from Germany was elected President of WMO.
