EU diplomats met with young advocates on girls' empowerment and the Youth Action Plan

The Czech Presidency, in cooperation with EWAG (European Week of Action for Girls) hosted an informal meeting of youth advocates with delegates from Member States and representatives of EU institutions on October 12, 2022. They focused on how the EU's external action and its development cooperation and human rights policies can help strengthen girls' rights around the world.

Young advocates from Tanzania, Bangladesh, Kyrgyzstan, Ghana, Zimbabwe and other countries made very erudite presentations on issues and perspectives of local communities (e.g. education, health, sexual and reproductive rights and gender-based violence, including sex education, political participation and economic empowerment of girls and young women) directly to Member State representatives, the European Commission and the European External Action Service.  All this also in relation to the newly adopted first Youth Action Plan in EU External Action.

Young advocates called on the EU to broaden its support for civil society and the rights and empowerment of girls, both at the political level and in translating commitments into concrete action, including monitoring their implementation.

The Czech Republic consistently addresses the rights and empowerment of girls and women in its development cooperation and humanitarian aid, and the Youth Action Plan in EU External Action is among belongs to the programme of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU.
