Opportunities in the mining industry in Bulgaria and presentation of Czech companies

Opportunities in the mining industry in Bulgaria and presentation of Czech companies
Czech and Bulgarian companies from the mining industry have a long-standing and traditional cooperation. Czech manufacturers are among the main suppliers of equipment and technology, especially for coal mining, and can be a source of experience and solution providers for the future fundamental change in the sector brought about by the implementation of the EU Green Deal. As in the Czech Republic, the government envisages the cessation of coal mining by 2038, which will bring significant changes to the affected regions in terms of employment, industrial structure and environmental protection. On the other hand, the end of mining is still many years away and there is room for increasing mining efficiency, reducing the environmental burden and gradually introducing new technologies to enable a smooth transition to the new phase.

The Czech Republic and Bulgaria have a long tradition of mutual cooperation in the mining sector. After all, Bulgarian specialists and employees in local mines know Czech machines well and appreciate their quality, durability and reliability. Today we still have a lot to offer - from wheeled excavators to conveyors to control systems.

However, we should not forget about possible cooperation in research and development, as well as in future reclamation and finding new employment for mine and thermal power plant employees.

The economic diplomacy project, which we implemented on 25 October 2023 with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, aims to contribute to the exchange of information, to enable Bulgarian and Czech participants to establish new contacts and, last but not least, to broaden the awareness of Bulgarian experts about the supply of Czech products and services in this field.

During the seminar, a presentation was made by a representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, as well as the Czech Association for Mining Technology and its member companies (Enelex, DSP Přerov, ND LOR, Simex and Transrol-CZ) and PSP Engineering, a company operating outside the association.  The Czech exporters presented their products and services to representatives of the Bulgarian Ministries of Energy and Economy and Industry, the Bulgarian Mining Association, the state-owned Mines Maritsa East and a number of companies.

We believe that thanks to this seminar we will be able to raise the existing very good cooperation between the two countries to a new and higher level.

For 2024, the Embassy plans to implement three projects in the field of economic diplomacy - presentations of Czech companies in the field of hydrogen and battery technologies and smart city management solutions "Smart Cities".
