Reception in Accra October 28, 2016

On October 28, 2016 Ambassador Margita Fuchsová hosted a reception in occasion of establishment of independent Czechoslovakia. The main theme of the evening was – with respect to the previous year – cooperation between both countries in fields of culture and business.

More than 200 guests attended celebrations: Ambassadors and other members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of Ghanaian government institutions, local tribal leaders, Czech and Ghanaian entrepreneurs and Ghanaian graduates of Czech universities.

Traditional Czech specialities were prepared by chef Václav Kukula (Prague ham with horseradish, canapés with garlic butter, apple pie). Just like previous year, Pilsner beer was on draft. During the evening, lecturers from HAMU Jiří Slavík and Martin Novák performed with bandleaders from the University of Ghana.

Ambassador Margita Fuchsová highlighted importance of long-term and traditionally excellent Czech-Ghanaian relations and she thanked partners who were involved in preparations of celebrations. Namely, Royal Spa company which sent chef Václav Kukula from the hotel Diana in Velké Losiny, Stalion Motors – the distributor Škoda cars in Ghana, musicians Jiří Slavík and Martin Novák, designer and textile producer Veba and SkyWater company which starts the business with bottled water in Ghana. Ambassador Fuchsová appreciated the main partner of the National Day celebrations in Ghana – DEFCON and the Česká Zbrojovka Uherský Brod.

The Embassy followed up on last year tradition and included the handing over of a commemorative medal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to a personality who contributed to development of Czech-Ghanaian relations. This year, respected businessman Dr. Karl Laryea was appreciated. He studied in former Czechoslovakia and nowadays he is the sales representative of several Czech companies in Ghana.

The part of the evening there was the exhibition of pictures of acclaimed Ghanaian painter Billy Baffoe-Bonnie who exhibited his pictures in Prague several year ago. The exhibition was open in the premises of the residence and questions were directed to the author of exhibition who arrived for the celebrations as well.
