Czechs abroad voted for Petr Pavel in the second round of the presidential elections

In the second round of the presidential elections, government offices recorded a new Czech voter participation record for voters abroad. At 110 general consulates and embassies from Los Angeles to Canberra, 22,932 valid votes were casted.

In connection to the time zones, voting abroad took place from Thursday, January 26th, to Saturday, January 28th 2023. Among the first to vote were Czechs in South American countries―in Brasilia, Santiago de Chile, São Paulo, and Buenos Aires. The polling station at the Czech Embassy in Copenhagen opened the voting process with the Czech national anthem played on a saxophone, Czechs in Munich hoped off the ski slopes to the polling boxes, and a voter in Luxemburg brought to the election room a warm bábovka cake. Participation in the second round of the presidential election hit a new record of 22,932 valid votes.

The largest number of voters casted their ballots in London, 3,118 citizens voted at four polling stations in Germany, and 1,468 votes were casted in Brussels.

In the second round of voting abroad, the candidate Petr Pavel won again, receiving 95.21% of the votes. 4.78% of people voted for the other candidate, Andrej Babiš. Petr Pavel won with Czechs living abroad in the first round as well, in which 15,881 valid votes were cast and voter participation reached almost 72% of registered voters.

„I appreciate how Czechs abroad completed many times journeys of hundreds of kilometres just to be able to vote. I believe that we will soon be able to implement postal voting that will simplify the process for our fellow countrymen,“ added Minister Lipavský on the presidential voting process.
