Minister Jan Lipavský welcomed Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Eli Cohen

On April 4, 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Czechia, Jan Lipavský, met with Israeli counterpart, Eli Cohen, marking the first Czech-Israeli ministerial meeting in ten years. The ministers jointly confirmed their commitment to further develop and deepen the strategic partnership between the Czech Republic and the State of Israel.

Based on mutual interests, the ministers agreed to strengthen cooperation in the areas of trade, security and science, and research and innovation.

In addition to bilateral affairs, the ministers' meeting also focused on current security challenges that have a major impact on the foreign and security policy of Czechia and Israel. “We naturally discussed security challenges that have major impacts on the foreign policy of both of our countries, particularly about continued Russian aggression against Ukraine. Czechia continues fully supporting Ukraine in the fields of humanitarian and military aid and will assist the Ukrainian government in stabilizing and renovating the country. I am convinced that Ukraine will receive similar support from the Israeli side as well,” shared the head of Czech diplomacy after their conversation.

During the meeting, they also spoke about the threat from the Iran nuclear program and Iran’s support of Russia in the war in Ukraine. “I stressed how great the danger is in the supply of Iranian drones to Russia, which then uses them in Ukraine,” Minister Lipavský said.

Ministers also briefly touched on the issue of Israeli-Palestinian relations. In this context, Minister Jan Lipavský expressed appreciation for the March negotiations between the two sides in Aqaba, Jordan and Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, which resulted in the statements declaring their will to implement steps to reduce tension in the region.
