Members of the Czech Parliament discussed culture, education and sports in Iceland

A delegation of MPs from the Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sports of the Czech Parliament's Chamber of Deputies visited Iceland between May 31 and June 4, 2015.
 

The delegation was headed by Professor Jiří Zlatuška, committee chair. Further present were Anna Putnová and Jiří Mihola, committee deputy chairs, and Marta Semelová, member of the committee. They were accompanied by Marcela Havrdová, clerk to the committee, Marta Bartošková, Czech-Icelandic interpreter, and by Josef Smyček, Deputy Czech Ambassador in Iceland, resident in Oslo.

The aim of the visit was to learn about best practices and to exchange views in the areas of university legislation, education quality assessment at elementary and secondary schools, public support for science, research, cultural heritage protection, and for promoting living arts and sports, especially among the youth.

The entire programme was arranged by the Czech Embassy in Oslo. It comprised meetings with members of the partner General Affairs and Education Committee in the Parliament of Iceland (Alþingi), with the senior management of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, with Rector of the Iceland Academy of the Arts, Rector-elect of the University of Iceland, and with the General Secretary of the Icelandic Youth Association.

Also, the delegation attended the Ceremonial opening of 16th Games of the Small States of Europe, toured Harpa – Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre, and visited the Vasulka Chamber in the National Gallery of Iceland.
