Screening of the movie "My Father, the Prince"

Date: 12 June 2024 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Venue: Embassy of the Czech Republic in Stockholm, Pavilion, Villagatan 21

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Stockholm, the Czech-Slovak-Swedish Association and the Czech Centre Stockholm invite you to another movie evening, this time for a documentary about Karel Schwarzenberg titled "My Father, the Prince," which will be screened on 12 June 2024, at 18:00 at the Pavilion of our Embassy.

We would like to pay tribute to Karel Schwarzenberg, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Chancellor of President Václav Havel, and a prominent figure in the Czech political scene, who passed away on November 12, 2023. Karel Schwarzenberg, also known as "the Prince," and his daughter Lila, co-author of the film, spent dozens of hours together over five years in various places that influenced the life of their noble family. From Prague to Orlík, through Vienna and Styrian Murau, each place carries its own historical significance, encompassing private moments and significant events of the 20th century. Dialogues between father and daughter reveal not only easily graspable topics but also controversial ones, such as the complex adolescence in the shadow of a prominent father and the weight of aristocratic traditions and customs.

"As fascinating as the places, characters, and historical background of the film may seem, I believe that at its core, this documentary reflects the intimate and highly emotional relationship between father and daughter, their shared strengths and weaknesses, failures and dreams, their eccentricities and closeness in life," says Lila Schwarzenberg about the film.

The film will be screened in its original German version with English subtitles.
