Foreign Affairs Committee of the Czech Parliament visited Sweden

The Delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, led by Lubomír Zaorálek, Chairman of the Committee and Karel Schwarzenberg, Vice-Chairman of the Committee, visited Sweden from March 26 to March 29, 2018. They discussed issues such as Brexit, the future development of the EU, migration, relations with Russia and naturally also bilateral Czech – Swedish cooperation in the EU as well as security and defence industry cooperation.

The first day of the visit was dedicated to meetings in Swedish Parliament (Riksdag). The delegation met with their counterparts from Foreign Committee led by Committee Chairman Kenneth G. Forslund as well as with members of the EU Affairs Committee led by its Chairman Jonas Eriksson. Czech parliamentarians were also received by the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament Urban Ahlin and also by Foreign Minister Margot Wallström.

On Wednesday, Mach 28, 2018 the delegation met with Jan Salestrand, State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence and with Johan Kraft, Head of the EU Section at Prime Minister´s Office.

While in Sweden the delegation also met with representatives of the Czech community in Stockholm and they also attended a reception hosted at the Embassy of the Czech Republic with several renowned guests such as Carl Bildt, former Swedish prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The delegation also had a rare opportunity to see Codex Gigas at the National Library along with several other treasures related to the Czech Republic´s history.
