"Invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 - A lesson for today"

Ambassador Jiří Šitler presented a lecture "Invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 – A lesson for today?" at the Hellsten Hotel on September 13, 2018.

It is often difficult to explain the events of the Prague Spring without putting these events in larger context, therefore Ambassador Jiří Šitler in his lecture outlined the history of the country since 1918 (the foundation of the Republic, occupation by Nazi Germany, communist coup, liberalization and consequently the invasion of Warsaw Pact armies led by the Soviet army). He also spoke about the events of that time on the Swedish political scene and how the invasion is perceived and described in today´s Russia, which sparked a lively debate. The lecture was organized by the Rotary Club of Stockholm International, an organization for socially committed persons of different professional status, gender, age, religion and ethnicity, who are developing humanitarian efforts and are committed to promoting consensus, goodwill and peace in the world.
