Martinů Performed by Znamenáčková in Tainan

On Tuesday October 30, an outstanding Czech pianist Kristýna Znamenáčková delivered a recital of Leoš Janáček´s and Bohuslav Martinů´s compositions at the National Cheng Kung University concert auditorium. The concert was yet another event to commemorate the hundred years since the founding of Czechoslovakia, and thus the era, in which the said Czech modernists Janáček and Martinů lived through most of their productive careers.

As the artist noted in her opening remarks, while Janáček spent his life within the Czech lands, Martinů lived mainly abroad; this explains the inspirational variety enjoyed by the composers and the thematic dialogue of the national versus the cosmopolitan. One could hardly find a more urgent social accent, and one could hardly find an interpreter who would manage to handle it with such erudition and persuasiveness as Znamenáčková, who has been awarded for her interpretation of Martinů several times already and who specializes in Martinů´s art in her current doctoral research thesis conducted at Janáček´s Academy.

Around 800 people visited the Tainan concert. NCKU Museum was the main organizer with financial and logistic support of CECO.
