DCEFF: It's Bean Too Hot / The World According to My Dad

The Embassy of the Czech Republic will screen the short film It's Bean Too Hot by Hedvika Michnová and the film The World According to My Dad by Marta Kovářová on March 26, 2024, at 6 pm, as part of the DC Environmental Film Festival. Climate change is dramatically changing our communities. See how coffee plantations are being transformed. Delve into the mission of a father and daughter trying to make an impact and find a solution to saving the planet.

Climate change is having a drastic effect on your daily cup of coffee. If we don’t act soon, by the end of the century, coffee could be gone forever.

It’s Bean Too Hot tells the story of farmers whose livelihoods are at stake as they need to quickly adapt to the changing conditions, and the heroes out there fighting for the future of coffee every day. This film shows the effect of climate change through the eyes of those who are feeling it the most. Coffee farmers that have had to struggle with the drastic effect of the changing weather affecting their production completely. But not all is lost! There are solutions that farmers can adapt to change their way of farming and save coffee for the future. By adopting sustainable practices, these solutions not only save your cup of coffee but also protect the environment in return.

About the Director: Hedvika Michnova
Hedvika is a filmmaker and photographer from the Czech Republic and a recent graduate of Marine and Natural History Photography at Falmouth University in the UK. Coming from a landlocked country, upon moving to Falmouth she fell in love with the ocean and the wild animals living there. As a PADI Rescue diver, she is exploring the underwater life of our oceans. She is a keen traveler and aims to show the beauty of our planet through her films and photographs, as well as some of the threats our planet is facing.

The World According to My Dad
Directed by Marta Kovářová, 77 minutes, Czech with English subtitles, 2023

The documentary film captures the joint dream of a material physicist and his artist daughter for an effective solution to save the planet. Together, and with humor, they venture into many different platforms where no one is expecting or welcoming of them. On their journey, they try to navigate their way not only around the world of climate politics and the powers behind it but also with each other.

About the Director: Marta Kovářová
Marta Kovářová, Ph.D. graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Brno. She currently teaches at the Department of Art Education of the Faculty of Pedagogy of the Masaryk University in Brno, sings in the band Budoár staré dámy, and lives with her two children and husband in Dolní Cerekev where they founded the cultural association RoztoČ kolektiv.
