Czech National Day Reception and Inauguration of an Exhibition on the Occassion of the 30th Anniversary of the Velvet Revolution

On November 15, 2019, the Czech National Day reception was held in the premises of the National Museum of Myanmar in Yangon. At the same time the official opening of an exhibition on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution took place.

On the occasion of the National Day of the Czech Republic, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Yangon organized a festive reception in the ancient premises of the National Museum, during which an exhibition of vintage photographs commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution was inaugurated.

The motto of the celebrations was the struggle of the Czechoslovak people for freedom and democracy, and Ambassador Hana Mottlová in her opening address mentioned both fateful dates, 17 November 1939 and 17 November 1989, by which the motto is symbolized.

The event attracted quite an attention in both official and public circles. The guest of honor from Myanmar side was the Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Cooperation U Taung Tun. Our invitation was also accepted by the Union Minister for International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin with his spouse. The Yangon region did not stay unrepresented and its chief executive, U Phyo Min Thein, was also present at our celebration.

Both reception and exhibition were widely presented in printed and internet media as well as in local television broadcasting.

The event was made even more special by the delicacies of Myanmar cuisine prepared by the LinkAge Restaurant and Art Gallery, which also functions as a training school for young chefs and waiters. Their skills were rightfully praised by all participants.
