NATO Contact Point Embassy: Commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Czech Republic's membership in NATO

Debate with Michael Žantovský, former spokesperson and advisor to President Václav Havel, Ambassador to the USA, Israel and Great Britain and advisor to President Petr Pavel.

On 25 April 2024, at the premises of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bern, with the participation of NATO member states and partner countries.

Ambassador Michael Žantovský recalled the period of the end of the Cold War and political regime change, when return to freedom, common historical roots, and values were the first choice of Central European countries. Michael Žantovský reminded the difficult way to reach this goal and the complexity of negotiations on the membership of the Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary in NATO.  The Partnership for Peace, 30 years ago and subsequent accession to NATO, was an important "window of opportunity" for us to ensure our own security, but above all, it was a commitment to our active contribution to the common defense.

The pleasant musical accompaniment was provided by the Czech Army Wind Quintet.
