International Day of Human Rights - Discussion of women's rights in Albanian society

On the occasion of the International Day of Human Rights the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tirana organized a meeting on the topic of human rights, specifically on the women rights in the Albanian society.

Participants at this meeting, organized by Mrs. Monika Kazdová, Deputy Head of Mission, included: Mrs. Elsa Ballauri, executive director of Albanian Human Rights Group, journalist and board member of International Women´s Museum Association (she is also director of the Women´s Museum in Albania), Mrs. Dhurata Thanasi,  founder of the „Luga e Argjendtë“ brand, expert in development of local governance with experience from international organizations, specialized in healthy lifestyle, Mrs. Marcela Tringaj – lawyer, specialized in help to marginalized women and groups, working as well as a journalist and human rights activist; Mrs. Taylor – human rights activist with experience from international organization and a successful entrepreneur.

During the meeting in a very friendly atmosphere following topics were discussed: position of women in the past and in the current Albanian society, working opportunities for women, women´s role in family and influence of traditions. Mentioned was also the sad topic of domestic violence. Big thanks to all participants for the great discussion.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic is planning to continue in similar discussion formats, both on the topic of human rights, as well as other present subjects.
