As part of the Year of Tolerance and Intercultural Dialogue, the Embassy of Abu Dhabi organized concerts by the Czech Music Duo Jiří Slavík Jr. and Marián Friedl, who are both all-around musicians, composers and university professors.
The first concert took place on October 21, 2019 at the Ismaili Center in Dubai. This center is well-known for organizing cultural events and has a wide audience background. The audience in the hall for 200 spectators had the opportunity to see a program presenting authentic and stylized folklore, modern song adaptations with an overlap to “world music” and jazz interpretations. Both musicians used their multi-instrumental abilities by playing the piano, double bass, violin, alto, clarinet, flutes and whistles.
A day later J. Slavík Jr. and M. Friedl presented their performing art at the Private Leadership International Private School in Abu Dhabi, which established partnerships with the Jan Neruda Grammar School in Prague as part of a broader project of the Czech participation at EXPO 2020 in Dubai.
In the framework of an educational concert for pupils and students of the school, they presented examples of musical genres accompanied by professional explanations by engaging the audience interactively in common rhythm and singing.
During the evening concert for parents of students attended by the Diplomatic Corps and representatives of the School Department of the Abu Dhabi Municipality, both artists received awards for presentation of compositions, confirming the high level of interpretation of processed material, including their own works.
