2010-Exhibition “Manuscripts from Czech Libraries” in Athens

Between 23 April and 21 May 2010 an exhibition of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic entitled “Manuscripts in Czech Libraries” was hosted at the Gennadius Library in Athens. With the support of the Association of Friends of the Gennadius Library and the Gennadius Library, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Greece organised the exhibition in the framework of its activities aiming at promotion of the Czech language and literature in Greece. The official, highly attended, opening of the exhibition took place on 22 April, on the eve of the World Book and Copyright Day.
The official opening of the exhibition “Manuscripts in Czech Libraries” took place at the prestigious Gennadius Library in Athenson 22 April 2010, raising much interest among the invited guests. At the beginning, the guests were greeted by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Greece Hana Mottlová and the President of the Association of Friends of the Gennadius Library Ioannis Bourlogiannis-Tsangaridis, who both appreciated the co-operation of both institutions and underlined the role of manuscripts in the history, the epic beauty, employed in many manuscripts of professional content, and also the importance of manuscripts in today’s fast-paced cyber world.
The exhibition “Manuscripts in Czech Libraries“ consisted of20 sheets with texts on the origin and the history of manuscripts in Czech lands and perfected with copies of the most beautiful preserved manuscripts, and 2 panels containing information on the Czech Republic and the libraries in the Czech Republic in which the most important manuscripts are preserved. The exhibition was accompanied by selected books from The Most Beautiful Czech Book Competition of the year 2009, borrowed by the Directorate of Art and Libraries of the Ministry of Culture of the CzechRepublic.
The exhibition at the Gennadius Library in Athens lasted from 23 April until 21 May 2010 and it was realised in co-operation of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Athens and the Association of Friends of the Gennadius Library and with support of the Gennadius Library. The exhibition attracted much attention of the important Greek press.
