The second meeting of the working group between the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic and the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC took place in Beijing

On April 19, a working group between the Czech MIT and Chinese MOFCOM took place in Beijing. This was the second overall meeting of this group and the first one in physical form. The main topics were support and communication of important issues in mutual trade.

From the Czech side, the meeting was led by the Director of the Department of Non-European Countries of MIT, Mr. Richard Hlavatý. The meeting was also attended by the representatives of the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic (led by vice-president Mr. František Chaloupecký) and Czech companies, accompanied by representatives of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Beijing (Ambassador and economic diplomat). Mr. Li Xingqian, director of MOFCOM's foreign trade department, led the meeting on behalf of the Chinese side

During the meeting economic topics that unite our two countries were discussed. Both sides said they are aware of the strengths and weaknesses of our economic exchange and are willing to cooperate more deeply.China is our 2nd largest trading partner, with the total value of mutual trade in 2023 representing more than 938 billion crowns (41,5 billion USD). For this reason, regular business dialogue is vital for initiating more intensive business cooperation and removing trade barriers.

Friday, April 19, was the last day of the delegation in China, where, in addition to the working group, they had a number of other meetings. During them, among others, the Union of Industry and Transport of the Czech Republic signed a memorandum of understanding with the China Council for Promotion of International Trade (more here). An important point of the visit was also to discuss the intention to hold the 12th session of the Intergovernmental Economic Joint Committee in the fall of this year in Beijing. Apart from the official meeting, the delegation also participated in the Czech Business Afternoon seminar organized by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Beijing, during which they met representatives of Czech companies operating in the region.
