Démanty Noci (Diamonds of the Night)

On the 6th of June 2016, Filmhuis Lumen in Delft will be screening a film by a recently deceased Czech film director Jan Němec, “Démanty noci”. This film will be screened in collaboration with the Czech Centre Haag/Rotterdam.
The first feature film by Jan Němec from 1964, inspired by a short story written by Arnošt Lustig, belongs to the key movies of the Czech new wave. The main topic of the movie is the fight for the human dignity. Film depicts a story of two Jewish boys, who managed to escape from the transport to a concentration camp. Němec used a minimum of dialogues and created the mosaic full of dreams, memories, hallucinations, fantasies and flashbacks.
