Minister Petříček will discuss challenges in the area of freedom of peaceful assembly and association

Date: 12.11.2020 , Venue: Prague / Geneva

Minister of Foreign Affairs Tomáš Petříček will take part on 12 November 2020 in a High-level on-line Event to commemorate 10 years of the Mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and association. He will be joined in the discussion by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, the EU Special Representative for Human Rights as well as by representatives of the Office of the  UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and of Civil Society to talk about the first years of the Mandate and common challenges that will guide the Mandate in the upcoming years.

The Czech Republic actively supported the establishement of the Mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur in 2010 together with a group of partner countries (Indonesia, Lithuania, the Maldives, Mexico, Nigeria and USA) through a UN Human Rights Council resolution. As an independent expert within the UN system, the Special Rapporteur focuses on development of relevant international norms, addresses problematic situations and trends in the world, promotes the rights within the UN, links Civil Society actors with the private sector and development actors and assists States in developing their domestic legal frameworks and policies. The Event is organized by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Registration at bit.ly/FoAA10th.
