President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appreciated the timing of the visit by the political and business delegation to Ghana – the priority of his government is job creation and industrialization of the country, mainly through foreign investments. This plan was further elaborated by Ghana’s Minister of Food and Agriculture Owusu Afriyie Akoto during the business seminar, which was opened by Minister of Agriculture Marian Jurečka, Deputy Minister Martin Tlapa, and Assistant Deputy Minister of Defense and Director of Industrial Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Defense Tomáš Kopečný. A total of 10 Czech companies as well as the Czech Export Bank, the Export Guarantee and Insurance Corporation (EGAP) and Mendel University presented themselves at the seminar. The opening of the seminar and the evening reception was attended by more than 150 guests from multiple ministries, including two deputies and one state minister, captains of Ghana’s industry, farmers, planters and top representatives of Ghana’s army as well as its air forces.

The presentations of the representatives of the Czech defense sector were held at the Ministry of Interior and at the Defense Staff and were attended by the Deputy Minister of Interior Henry Quartey and Chief of Defense Staff Major gen. Obed Akwa.      

Furthermore, Deputy Minister Tlapa discussed participation of Czech firms in the development of Ghanaian processing industry with Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Robert Ahomka-Lindsay. “Ghana is a resource-rich country and our companies are ready to deliver the necessary technologies and provide investments, so that there is an added value to the resources,” Deputy Minister Tlapa stated. In addition, both Deputy Ministers stressed the need to sign the investment protection treaty as soon as possible.

During talks with his counterpart at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Charles Owiredu, Deputy Minister Tlapa appreciated Ghana’s democratic political system and the constructive role of the country in providing for regional stability and security. Both Deputy Ministers agreed on further deepening of the economic cooperation and upgrading it at least to its levels in the 1960s and 1970s, when Czechoslovakia was a strategic partner to Ghana.
