The Visegrad Group for EU Enlargement in Western Balkans

The annual meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Visegrad Group (V4) and the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia and Serbia) took place in Budapest on October 11, 2017, under the Hungarian Presidency of the V4. The meeting was also attended by the representatives of the current EU Presidency Estonia, as well as Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia and Romania. The Czech Republic was represented by the Deputy Minister for European Affairs Jakub Dürr.

The V4 Ministers reiterated their continued interest in and support to the Western Balkan countries on their accession path to the EU and to the NATO and called for keeping the accession processes high on the EU and NATO agenda. The EU and NATO enlargement policy provides invaluable contribution for achieving security and stability not only in the Western Balkans, but in entire Europe. The Deputy Minister Dürr stressed that the EU and the NATO will not be complete without the Western Balkan countries.

The representatives of the V4 welcomed the inauguration of the Western Balkans Fund (WBF), inspired by the International Visegrad Fund, and expressed their hope that the WBF will develop to a successful and sustainable project and become a powerful tool for the deepening of people-to-people contacts and for the reconciliation in the region of the Western Balkans.
