Czech exposition at Beijing Expo won Best Design Award!

Beijing's largest, longest and greenest Beijing Expo is over. The Czech Republic represented by the motto: “Czech Republic - Land of Green Tradition and Innovation” successfully attended the exhibition. The Czech exposition not only introduced traditional brands such as Petrof, Ton or Skoda Auto, but also innovations, Czech delicacies and crystal glass products with natural motifs. All the displayed products carried the spirit of greenery, nature, environmental protection and eco-friendly innovations for which the Czech Republic won the Silver Award of the International Indoor Area.

Czech exposition was created out of natural themes. Dominant feature to the exposition was a lamella roof, which symbolized the wavy Czech landscape passing into the mountains. Blue floor was to evoke water. Significant feature to the exposition entitled “The Land of Green Tradition and Innovation” were products of purely Czech traditional production, which put an emphasis on natural materials, origin or innovation. It all was complemented by an attractive video presentation of CzechTourism Agency calling for visiting the Czech Republic.

At the bar, traditional Czech food products such as beer, wine, plum brandy or dairy products could be tasted. From Ton manufactured bent chairs placed behind the bar, visitors could observe traditional Czech crystal and porcelain decorated with natural or floral patterns. Above the bar floated glass made birds of the Czech interior lights producer Brokis Company.

“Green” Škoda car model Škoda Kodiaq was one of the main attractions to the exhibition. It was created out of live and later artificial flowers (used for a longer lasting effect) to reflect the emphasis Škoda puts on green technology and transition to electro mobility.

The Petrof brand rococo upright piano, which musically coloured the exhibition, was symbolizing traditional Czech production out of natural materials. Natural materials and innovations were well represented also by Respilon brand, which offered nanofibrous materials in the form of clothing and breathing masks.

Little kid visitors could enjoy a cinema with thematically selected stories of the Little Mole such as "The Mole Gardener" or "The Mole and Toy Car", which suitably complemented the exhibits, or even plush Mole with which children could play or take pictures.

All the displayed products carried the spirit of greenery, nature, environmental protection and eco-friendly innovations. Such ecologically focused concept and exposition design helped the Czech Republic win one more award, that is the Merit Participation Award.

The author and designer of the Czech exposition was Czech architect Jiří Příhoda. In his works, he creates monumental and impressive spatial installations and interventions in architecture that thematize not only the given environment, but his works are also results of existential and social metaphors. Often these are site-specific and land art projects that have the ability to shift the human perception of a given space, respond to it and take advantage of its features. The Embassy would like to thank the architect for his excellent work in presenting the Czech Republic and its green culture!
