Long-stay visas (over 90 days and less than 1 year)

The Czech authorities will issue a visa for a stay for more than 90 days upon the request of a foreign national who intends to stay in the Czech Republic for study, employment, business or family unification.The processing time is approx. 90 days (60 days for student visa) from the day the Consulate General receives a complete application file.

  • Please, always make an apppintment to apply for a long term visa through our consular email:  hongkong.consulate@mzv.gov.cz - please, state your full name, Hong Kong/Macau telephone number, preferred dates for appointments (at least 3 dates in order of preference, 2 of which must be in at least 2 weeks time), number of applicants: (only family members can apply together), and the visa purpose (student, employment, business, etc.) We will confirm the appointment within 2-3 working days.

Long-stay Visa in general

List of countries and territories whose nationals can file an application for visa at the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Hong Kong even if they are not permanent residents of Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR or if they are not holding Hong Kong or Macao Identity Card

Albania, Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Monaco, Montenegro, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Republic of Korea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, San Marino, Serbia, Seychelles, Singapore, Taiwan, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, United States of America, Uruguay, Vatican (Holy See), (Bolivarian Republic of) Venezuela.

Nationals of other countries and territories (with an exception of family members of EU citizens) can file an application for visa ONLY in the country/territory of which they are nationals, which issued their travel document, or in which they reside on a long-term or permanent basis.

The processing time is approximately 90 days (60 days for student visa) from the date the Consulate General receives a complete application file. In some particularly complicated cases, the procedure could take up to 120 days.

LONG-STAY STUDENT VISA

REQUIREMENTS

All documents have to be presented in original or legalized copies and officially translated into the Czech language. No documents (except for your birth certificate and your passport) should be older than 180 days.

1. Application form. The form must be filled out completely with a ball point pen or by a typewriter with black or blue ink IN BLOCK LETTERS IN ENGLISH OR CZECH.

 2. Two (2) identical photographs. Photographs must be of an official passport size (3,5 x 4,5 cm) with white backround -  must be a full face view, side or angled views are not accepted.

 3. Travel document (passport or document of identity for visa purposes), validity of which exceeds the expected length of stay by at least 90 days with a couple of blank visa pages available (+ photocopy of data page)

 4. Proof of sufficient funds. You can prove the funds by presenting bank statements for the last three months (or an original letter from the bank with the current balance of your account) or internationally accepted credit card(s) issued in your name with the credit card statement or savings book in your name.  5. Proof of the purpose of stay.

Usually, it will be the Letter of Acceptance (in Czech language) issued and signed and/or stamped by the school representative. There may also be other documents certifying that you will be attending a school, a training course, an internship, etc. Such letters will usually be included in the confirmation of pre-arranged accommodation of the student. The document must be in original.

 6. Proof of accommodation (in Czech language). The following options are possible:

a) Confirmation of the school's pre-arranged accommodation;

b) Legalized document stating that you have the use of an apartment for the duration of your stay;

c) Legalized document confirming that you own an apartment;

d) Legalized document confirming that you will lease an apartment or a part of it. Also, present an affidavit signed by the owner confirming the lease;

e) Original or notarized statement from either an owner or tenant of an apartment stating their ability and will to provide you with accommodation;

f) Original or notarized confirmation of accommodation in a lodging facility (dormitory, hotel). It must specify the length of stay.

The document must be submitted in original or via data box "datová schránka" of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, clearly marked the document is for the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Hong Kong.

7. Photocopy of your Birth Certificate (in case of minors only) Such photocopy does not need to be legalized. Please note that only the Birth Certificate showing the names of your parents is accepted (i.e. the "wallet" form is not sufficient).

8. Certificate of No Criminal Conviction from Hong Kong Police and the equivalent from any other countries where you stayed for more than 6 months during the last 3 years, and from your home country if it is not Hong Kong. The documents must be duly apostilled* or superlegalized and with verified translation into Czech language.  *Certificate of No Criminal Conviction from Hong Kong is an exception that it does not need to be apostilled to be used in Czech governmental authorities. A request letter from the Consulate is needed in order to apply for the Certificate at the Hong Kong Police, please click here for more information.

9.Travel medical insurance for the stay in the Czech Republic; the insurance is to be purchased at a later stage after the visa is approved, do NOT buy it beforehand.

REQUIREMENTS

Proof of the purpose of stay-the Employment Permit (or at least the File Ref.No. of the Employment Permit Application) issued by the local Employment Administration Office ( Úřad práce, in Czech language) confirming that the Office has been notified and agrees with your employment. This certificate should be obtained by or through your employer. In case of work in the Czech Republic, you are required to obtain a visa even if the period of stay will not exceed 90 days.

 6. Proof of accommodation (in Czech language). The following options are possible:

a) Legalized document stating that you have the use of an apartment for the duration of your stay;

b) Legalized document confirming that you own an apartment;

c) Legalized document confirming that you will lease an apartment or a part of it. Also, present an affidavit signed by the owner confirming the lease;

d) Original or notarized statement from either an owner or tenant of an apartment stating their ability and will to provide you an accommodation;

 5. Proof of the purpose of stay.

If you want to perform any business activity, you need one of the following:

Document confirming discontinuation of the procedure of issuing a Trade License (Živnostenské oprávnění) from Živnostenský úřad. It is necessary to show that the reason for interruption of the procedure is the non-existence of the long stay visa;

Legalized copy of a Trade License (Živnostenský list);

If the Trade Licence is not issued yet, present notarized copy of a Preliminary Trade License (Ohlášení živnosti);

Legalized copy of a Business License (Koncesní listina);

Legalized copy of a Commercial Register Entry (Zápis do Obchodního rejstříku);

Legalized copy of a contract or agreement regarding establishment of a company.
