Opening of the exhibition "The Life and Times of the Writer Karel Čapek"

The exhibition "The Life and Times of the Writer Karel Čapek" was opened on Friday, June 11, 2021 in the presence of the Ambassador of the Czech Republic Juraj Chmiel and the Dean Roman Kuhar at the entrance hall of the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana.
 

The opening speeches were given by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic Juraj Chmiel and the Dean Roman Kuhar. In their introductory words they focused not only on the extensive literary work of Karel Čapek, but also on his visionary theses in the field of modern technologies and social sphere, as well as on the author's democratic appeals. Many of his books have been translated also into Slovenian language. The opening ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic, representatives of the Department of Slavistics, students and friends of the Czech Republic.

The exhibition acquaints the viewer with the personality of Karel Čapek on many levels - not only in the often quoted ones, but also in a number of other, lesser-known ones. In addition to the presentation of the author and his dramatic and prose works, which are well known and translated in the world, the exhibitions displays also his journalistic and philosophical activities as well as civic attitudes, friendships, love relationships, hobbies, etc.

The exhibition follows the successful cooperation between the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ljubljana and the Department of Slavistics of the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana, where the Czech language and literature are taught.

The exhibition "The Life and Times of the Writer Karel Čapekis on display in the entrance hall of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana, Aškerčeva cesta 2, 1000 Ljubljana, until June 23, 2021.
