Dr. Lohitha Samarawickrema - Honorary Consul General of the Czech Republic in Colombo (Sri Lanka)

Lohitha Samarawickrema was born in 1971 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He studied at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka and Kiev State Medical University in Ukraine. During his stay in Ukraine, he also spent a part of his studies at St. Mary's University in London where he later obtained a Diploma in Rheumatology.

In terms of his working experience, Lohitha Samarawickrema worked in several hospitals in Srí Lanka and London. He is currently working with a pharmaceutical company World Medicine and with Mediccom Group, a company that provides pharmaceutical products, and a trading company Global Ventures Guvenmek promoting various development projects in Sri Lanka. Lohitha Samarawickrema is a member of the Orient Club and the Automobile Association and is involved in various charity activities in Sri Lanka.

Lohitha Samarawickrema was appointed as the honorary consul of the Czech Republic in Colombo in 2015 and since then he has been contributing to the development of bilateral relations, especially in the area of economical and cultural diplomacy, He also provides the Czech citizens in need with necessary consular support. In 2018, the honorary consulate contributed to the EU movie festival with a Czech movie called „The Tiger Theory“. It is also to be underlined that the honorary consulate plays an important role in the area of zoo diplomacy – in particular in the negotiations regarding the transport of Srilankan elephants to the Prague ZOO.
